The statement printed in the local council's magazine by Brent council sports service:
Brent Councils Sport Service has been helping to encourage young Muslim girls to participate in regular physical activity. In conjunction with the Al-Khoei Foundation and Bonat al-Mustaqbal inQueens Park, Sports Service has set up regular fitness sessions for girls aged 12 to 16 year olds. The sessions have been a huge hit and have rose from 8 girls to almost 30 in just a few weeks. The sessions were organised because there has been a distinct lack of sport and physical activity participation of girls generally but in particular Muslim girls. Sports Development Officer, Louisa Housen has been pleased with the development of the programme; 'I was delighted when our first session attracted 8 girls and amazed when only 3 weeks later we had practically tripled this figure'. 'The programme has helped to renew the girl’s interest in sport and physical activity and hopefully will encourage them to take part in other activities on a regular basis'. The sessions will continue into the summer term.
